Parramatta Eels fans prepare for their first Grand Final since 2009

CommBank Stadium will open for fans wanting to watch the Parramatta clash with Penrith in the NRL Grand Final on Sunday but missed out on snagging tickets to the sold-out game.

The Eels’ homeground will be open from 3.30pm when spectators can watch the match dubbed the Battle of the West in the eastern grandstand.

Penrith Panthers’ live site will be in The Backyard at Panthers Leagues Club with doors open from 1pm.

The NRL women’s decider at Paramatta will be screened ahead of the 7.30pm battle that will see the Eels aim to snap their 36-year premiership drought.

Next door on O’Connell St, Parramatta Leagues Club will also screen the matches on three giant screens in the carpark.

Tackle your hunger with food trucks and enjoy the entertainment. The ticketed area inside the club has already sold out. Potential members are encouraged join online and collect their membership at the club before Sunday when huge throngs are expected.

Parramatta Lord Mayor Donna Davis anticipates the atmosphere among spectators at Parramatta will be even more electric than at Accor Stadium.

“There’s going to be a live site at CommBank Stadium so this is a great opportunity we have to get behind the Eels,’’ she said.

The council has also supported a fan day on Monday and potentially a parade if the Eels prevail as premiers.

NRL boss Andrew Abdo said the demand for tickets was overwhelming from fans in the western Sydney heartland.

“There is much to look forward to this Sunday — a traditional rivalry that has never been played on the NRL Grand Final stage before and NRLW Grand Final between two teams in just their second premiership season,’’ he said.
