There aren’t many races that promote style over speed, but that will be the name of the game on Sunday as fearless folk ride Eskys out of a northern beaches brewery.

Some BrookieFest Esky race competitors will even have their pets in their arms as they board eskies attached to skateboards and tackle a track that culminates in the carpark.

While the race is an individual time trial, the crowd will pick three winners to each receive $150 to spend at 7th Day Brewery in Brookvale.

The brewery’s general manager, Joel Ridzuan, said the race wasn’t just about speed, but also creativity and having fun.

“Last year, we saw people standing, lying down, even boogie boarding … I’ll be racing horizontally on a boogie board,” he said.

The inspiration behind the race was just what you would expect it to be.

“We were having beers ... and pulled out an Esky and put it on top of a skateboard to see if it works, and that was the start of the Esky race,” Mr Ridzuan said.
