The front of a two-storey house has collapsed as firefighters battle to put out a massive blaze in Sydney’s south.

Fire and Rescue NSW was called to the property on Amy Rd in Peakhurst about 2pm on Sunday, arriving to find the house engulfed in flames.

A man believed to be in his 60s was in the house when a blaze, believed to have broken out in the garage, spread to the rest of the property.

The man suffered burns to his face and hair before being taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

Seven fire trucks, containing about 4o firefighters, managed to extinguish most of the blaze, which is not being treated as suspicious, within an hour of arriving at the scene.

Fire and Rescue duty commander John Paull told the Daily Telegraph firefighters could be battling hotspots stuck under rubble well into the evening.

“There are some deep-seated hotspots underneath the collapsed material and it may take some time to completely extinguish,” he said.
