Don't miss out on the headlines from NSW. Followed categories will be added to My News.
It will be footy heavy trackside at Royal Randwick Racecourse as the world’s richest race on turf takes place on Saturday.
Now in their off-season, stars of AFL and rugby league will be lapping up the hospitality for The Everest with many flying in from interstate for the massive event.
Canberra Raiders will be well represented with players Jamal Fogarty and Zac Woolford and legend of the game, Jarrod Croker, set to attend.
Brisbane Broncos Coach and 2024 NSW State of Origin Coach Michael Maguire is also heading to the track with Melbourne’s Essendon Bombers player Ben McKay even on the way.
Former chief executive of the AFL Gill McLachlan is expected too.
That’s on top of a slew of celebrity faces expected to soak up the atmosphere on the day.
The Voice host and Gold Logie winner Sonia Kruger attends each year, with Seven colleague’s Mark Ferguson and Angela Cox also to participate, as is Fergus Lupton from My Kitchen Rules.
7NEWS sports anchor Mel McLaughlin has not missed an Everest since it was launched eight years ago.
“We say it gets bigger every year and that’s because somehow, it does, and it was enormous when it started!
“The SOLD OUT sign was up days out – everyone wants to be there to experience it.
“It’s exciting, it’s fun, it’s a party, and the track falls silent for a split second before the big race and then the place goes wild.
“We know the Everest is a Group 1 race, now there’s huge prize money and the rock stars of racing – the horses and the humans – are all involved.
“Add to that the potential visit of the King and Queen – fitting for the running of the King Charles III Stakes. Doesn’t get any bigger.”
Irish singer Ronan Keating will be among revellers, as will Real Housewives of Sydney star Krissy Marsh and fashionista Kate Waterhouse, daughter of legendary horse trainer Gai.
“The Everest is such an exciting race on and off the turf with $20 million in prize money,” Waterhouse said.
“It attracts a huge crowd. Not only is it a great day of racing but it is one of world-class fashion. People really go over and beyond with their fashion choices and the nod to the blue theme is an elegant touch.”
