UPDATED: A HYSTERICAL woman who was allegedly taken hostage by one of her colleagues told an emergency phone operator that the man who attacked her was "a f***ing fruitcake", a court has heard.

Noelene Stevens was yesterday accused of faking her alleged harrowing ordeal at the hands of Matej "Matthew" Hio Tsung Vanko, 37, who is standing trial for the murder of her brother, Don Stevens.

Defence lawyer John Lawrence SC said: "You made (it) up ... because you hate Matthew Vanko."

Ms Stevens said the accusation was "despicable":

"I don't feel anything for Matthew Vanko. All I care about is justice for my family (over) my brother's death."

Serco employee Darren Dixon - who shared a desk with Ms Stevens at Northern Immigration Detention Centre - gave evidence that one day she stood up and screamed that she'd "had f***ing enough of the c***" and threatened to Taser and kill Vanko after receiving a harassing email from him at work.Mr Dixon said he suggested to the human resources manager that they sack Vanko, who was on probation and had no right of appeal, to save face "without another war".

Ms Stevens told the jury she had never considered Tasering anyone.

She told the NT Supreme Court jury she couldn't remember the phone conversation that happened shortly after she fled her own home where she said Vanko - armed with a hunting knife and a 9mm pistol - allegedly shackled her, roped her to a bed and held her captive for three hours.

Neighbours on Edelston Rd, at Howard Springs, took her in and called triple zero.

The court heard the operator asked: "Why is (the accused) doing this, Noelene?"

Ms Stevens replied: "He's a f***ing fruitcake, I think."

Prosecutors allege Vanko killed Ms Stevens' three dogs before taking her hostage when she arrived home from work on April 23, 2012. The court heard she had told Vanko that she was "afraid" of him while the pair were at work together.

Ms Stevens said that in the time leading up to her brother's murder she had spotted a man in a "cowboy-type" hat standing in the doorway of their garage while she was at home alone one evening.

She said she also spotted a man outside her bathroom while she was in the shower and was suspicious of a woman who had driven on to their property claiming to be lost.

The trial continues.
