A woman has died from her injuries following a structure fire at a Central Australia town camp.

‘No-brainer’ to make domestic violence leave a right

A WOMAN has died following a structure fire in Alice Springs.

On Friday about 11pm emergency services were called to the fire at a residence in the Hidden Valley Town Camp.

A woman and the alleged offender were taken to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

The woman passed away in hospital on Sunday due to her injuries.

An earlier statement from NT Police on Sunday read detectives from the Alice Springs Criminal Investigation Branch and investigators from the NT Fire and Rescue Service “believe the fire is the result of a domestic violence incident”.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Schumacher said the alleged offender was receiving treatment for significant burns suffered as a result of the fire.

“This woman’s death was a needless tragedy. Detectives are now treating this domestic violence case as a homicide,” he said.
