A 38-YEAR-OLD woman suffered minor burns after a barbecue gas bottle exploded at a Palmerston home.

Fire crews arrived at the Izod Crt home in Bakewell at 6.40pm last night after reports a gas bottle had ignited.

Fire Watch Commander Nelson Williams said the gas bottle wasn’t turned off after the first attempt to ignite the barbecue failed.

He said the gas built up and ignited at the second attempt.

The woman was treated for minor burns by St John Ambulance.
