So much so that they’ve given the historic pub their vote in the Hospitality NT, NT News and Sunday Territorian inaugural People’s Choice Awards aimed at encouraging Territorians to get back into their favourite local venues.
This year’s Hospitality NT Awards for Excellence have been suspended due to COVID-19 so we’ve partnered together in the four true blue categories of Best Chicken Parmi, Best Steak Sanga, Best Fish n Chips and Best Draught Beer. Territorians will be able to go and enjoy their favourite meal and beer and then vote for that venue online.
There will also be anonymous judges going through the network and scoring the dishes and draught beers.
The competition opened this Queens Birthday long weekend to coincide with the stage 3 reopenings and the winners will be announced on Territory Day.
Midnight, a Tasmanian, who has called Darwin home for the past 25 years, has had a tipple at many of the city’s pubs but says the Hotel Darwin will be hard to beat.
“It’s one of the best in town … good food, cold beer and great staff,” he said.
It’s the same for mate Brad, who is a 16-year Darwin veteran.
“I love my beer cold and fresh and that’s what I get from the Hotel Darwin,” he said. “Since Brett and Penny took over this place around six years ago it is the stand out pub in Darwin for me. They serve the best food at a reasonable price and the staff treat us well.”
Hospitality NT chief executive officer Alex Bruce is urging Territorians to get behind the awards.
