BOLD colours and big patterns were on the menu with hundreds of women serving fierce fashions at the Bridge Toyota Ladies’ Day.

The Darwin Turf Club was awash with tropical colour, with about 500 people attending the Ladies' Day Luncheon and hundreds more outside.

Darwinite Hannah Burns was crowned the winner of the Ladies’ Day Luncheon Fashions on the Field, sporting an intricate floral gown from Raw Cloth, footwear from Stomp Shoes and headpiece from Peacock Millinery, all local businesses.

“It’s always really important to make sure that we’re supporting local and wearing local on our stages,” she said.

Ms Burns was thrilled to attend Ladies’ Day and itching to attend the rest of the Cup Carnival.

“It’s a really nice day to get all the ladies together, network a lot and have fun without the boys,” she said.

“We’ve got an amazing event up here in the Northern Territory and while the rest country is fighting Covid, we’re up here having a ball.”

Wendy Fanning was also ecstatic to be crowned a Fashions on the Field winner.

“It’s just something bright and colourful, which is totally Darwin and my favourite colour is yellow,” she said.

“We’re very, very lucky to be enjoying a wonderful day with friends and a few drinks.

“We’re (at the Cup Carnival) every year without fail.”

Racegoer Nicky Westaway turned heads in her Raw Cloth number with wet season greens, footwear from Stomp Shoes and fascinator from Monsoon Millinery, an outfit she revived from a previous carnival.

“We’ve gone through a challenging time last couple of years so let’s restart,” she said.

“I love the Darwin community coming together and coming out of a Covid, it’s a great time to come out and enjoy our day,” she said. The next event on the Great Northern Darwin Cup Carnival is Derby Day on July 17. The always glamorous Darwin Turf Club Gala Ball is on July 31, and the much anticipated Darwin Cup on August 2.

The NT News will also be snapping photos at other Darwin Cup Carnival events, so be sure to look out for our photographers.
