CHIEF Minister Michael Gunner has shared the Territory’s COVID-19 exit roadmap with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern following today’s National Cabinet.

Ms Ardern joined the meeting to discuss the ‘Trans-Tasman bubble’.

Mr Gunner said discussions with her on the Territory and New Zealand’s progress were positive.

“New Zealand are now looking at how they can transition to a new normal down the track and Jacinda has asked me for a copy of the Territory’s roadmap and our safety plan checklists, which I have sent to her,” he said.

“This will allow Jacinda to look at how we are managing this transition, and what lessons there may be for the Kiwis when we did this we had no one else’s homework to borrow, so I’m more than happy to share our homework with Jacinda.”

Mr Gunner said the NT Government was “firing the starting gun” on Stage 2 of the Territory’s roadmap to a new normal, with compliance checklists released for businesses, sport and active recreation organisations to complete ahead of May 15.

“Businesses and organisations covered under Stage 2 are required to complete this checklist before they open to make sure you have physical distancing, hygiene and cleaning protocols in place so you can keep yourself, your staff and your customers safe,” Mr Gunner said.

“It’s quick, it’s simple and you can do it all online. No attachments, no consultants, no essays. Just fill it out, submit it and get back to business. You lodge it with us, you don’t wait for us, it’s as simple as that. You will not be sitting by the phone waiting for us to get back to you.

“There are no delays there are no red tape, if you can tick the boxes you can get a tick from us and then from the 15th of May spot checks will be done to ensure these protocols have been implemented and are being followed.

“I reckon the rest of the country is looking at us with a fair amount of jealousy and it’s not just Australians paying attention.”
