THE Darwin Waterfront’s shiny new Ferris wheel will take its first passengers on Friday, with up to 144 punters able to take in the sights on the attraction at any one time.

The 35m high Ferris wheel is the tallest transportable ride of its kind in Australia and will provide spectacular 360 degree views of Darwin and surrounds seven days a week from opening day until October.

The wheel will be lit up by more than 9000 lights after sundown and weighs 56 tonnes, with its 24 gondolas completing one full rotation every 53 seconds.

It will operate from 10am to 9.30pm.
