A MAN climbed up the side of an eight-storey building, before jumping 2m through the air onto a pole, in the Darwin CBD last night.

Several videos sent to the NT News show a man scaling the side of the TCG Centre on Mitchell St, using metal beams on the side of the building as rungs, as police and onlookers watch on.

Speaking to Katie Woolf on Mix 104.9FM this morning, St John Ambulance NT regional manager Andrew Everingham said when the 24-year-old man reached the top of the building, he had jumped about 2m across to a pole.

He said he then climbed down voluntarily, guided by police.

The man was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital for further assessment, but it’s understood he did not sustain any serious injuries.

Mr Everingham said the man had put himself “at great risk” and it was lucky he hadn’t been seriously injured.

NT Police declined to comment.

The incident was just one of several bizarre incidents St John crews attended over the Easter long weekend.

Also on Monday, paramedics took a 72-year-old man to RDH after he severed the tops of two fingers and sustained a large laceration on his hand when it was clipped by a model helicopter he was flying at East Point Reserve.

Over the weekend, paramedics also had to assist a man who had fallen 3m between two buildings; a teenager who was “partially ejected” in a single-vehicle rollover in Howard Springs; and a hiker who had to be rescued after falling at Litchfield National Park.
