UPDATE: An elderly man transfered from the Howard Springs quarantine camp to Royal Darwin Hospital yesterday has tested negative to the deadly coronavirus.
The Victorian man was transferred to RDH from the former Inpex workers’ camp after he suffered a deterioration in a pre-existing chronic medical condition while in the centre on Tuesday.
Tests carried out on Tuesday night showed the man had not contracted coronavirus.
He was one of 164 Australians evacuated to Darwin from the coronavirus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship last week, which had been moored for two weeks in Japan.
The man will remain in isolation in Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment until staff determine he is fit to return to the Howard Springs camp, or home to Victoria.

EARLIER: An elderly man has been transferred from the Howard Springs coronavirus quarantine facility to Royal Darwin Hospital after he suffered a deterioration in a chronic condition.
Health authorities say the Victorian man will be isolated throughout the admission process and immediately tested for coronavirus while he is treated for his pre-exisiting chronic medical condition.
No one from the quarantine camp had been isolated overnight for symptoms of infection and daily screening is underway, authorities said.
The number of positive tests from the Diamond Princess cruise ship group of evacuees remains at seven, all of whom have since been transferred to their home states.
