DARWIN-BORN businessman Andrew Liveris, a former adviser to US President Donald Trump, has been picked to co-chair the team tasked with crafting NT’s post-pandemic economic resurgence.
Mr Liveris, who is also a special adviser to the Federal Government’s National Coronavirus Co-ordination Commission, will co-chair the eight-member Territory Economic Reconstruction Commission (TERC) alongside former Labor chief minister and gas sector supporter Paul Henderson.
“We all know Andrew’s story, he’s long been a global power player, but he’s always been a Territory boy,” Mr Gunner said.
“Andrew believes the Territory can be an energy and manufacturing powerhouse, and I agree with him.”
Mr Liveris previously advocated for Dow Chemical to establish a plant in Darwin and he is also deputy chairman of consultancy firm Worley, which works within that industry.
Mr Gunner last week announced seven of the TERC’s members, which include clean-energy transition advocate and interim chief executive of climate think-tank Beyond Zero Emissions Eytan Lenko.

Ms Wakefield’s new Central Australia Reconstruction portfolio responsibilities is due to the Red Centre being “hard-hit by the economic impacts of the coronavirus crisis” and its heavy reliance on tourism.
She will be tasked with ensuring the Territory’s roadmap to recovery delivers jobs and investment for Central Australia and will work directly with the Chief Minister and the Territory Economic Reconstruction Commission.

The Chief Minister said the people on the commission, despite sharing vastly different views on the shale gas industry, were “extremely practical” people who understood what the opportunities were for the NT.
For Mr Gunner that lies in manufacturing, NT’s proximity to markets and the jurisdiction’s ability to fill the gaps in Australia’s supply chain.
