HONOURS for the highest Year 12 score have gone to an Alice Springs student who was awe-struck by her result.
Centralian Senior College student Anna Miers achieved a Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) score of 99.9.
Close behind her were Darwin High School students John Kwon on 99.7, and Meg Smith on 99.6.
Anna, 17, said she would never have expected to be so close to the perfect score of 99.95.
“I picked subjects I was passionate about, and I really enjoyed what I was doing through the year,” she said.
Six of the year’s top 20 students were from Alice Springs, spread between Centralian Senior College and St Philip’s College.
Casuarina Senior College had the most in the list with seven students, followed by Darwin High on six.
As the highest-ranked Darwin students, John was confident before the scores were released while Meg had more reservations.
“I really didn’t know ... 99.7 is satisfying to see,” John, 18, said.
“I’m super excited because this opens a few more doors to courses and scholarships,” Meg, 18, said.
Young Territorians Minister Peter Styles congratulated the Darwin students at a special event. “We’ve seen 60 more students graduate with the NTCET this year, which is a great result,” he said.
“They’ve done a fabulous job.”
There were 1315 students who completed their NTCET in 2014, 171 of those indigenous.
Asha Tonkin-Reeves from Katherine High School was the top-performing indigenous student.
