ASSISTANT Commissioner Nick Anticich will retire from the NT police force following the murder trial next month of Constable Zachary Rolfe.

Police confirmed Mr Anticich has been on extended leave while his elderly mother battles illness.

He will return to work on July 7 ahead of Constable Rolfe’s trial but police have confirmed he will retire once the trial is finished.

Mr Anticich was one of several officers present in Darwin when the decision was made to charge Constable Rolfe with murder over the death of Indigenous man Kumanjayi Walker in Yuendumu in November 2019.

Constable Rolfe’s trial is due to begin next month but the matter will return to court on Friday where a judge will decide whether police need to hand over documents requested by the defence.

It follows a hearing last month where Mr Edwardson said he had recently discovered the existence of crucial reports – referred to in court as the “Pollock reports” – that had not been disclosed to the defence.

It’s understood the reports were prepared by Detective Superintendent Scott Pollock who had been seconded to the Coroner’s office.

Mr Edwardson said the reports had not been disclosed by the prosecution or the police.

Police agreed to produce redacted versions of some of the documents but will fight to keep the rest from the defence on Friday.

Last week it was revealed Det-Supt Pollock had also taken extended leave from the NT Police.
