With more than 270 people quarantined in the Christmas Island Detention Centre the facility is reaching capacity.

Medical staff at Christmas Island are taking an ultraconservative approach in their treatment of the evacuees.

Each day staff wearing masks, gloves and a gown conduct wellbeing and temperature checks on each evacuee to screen for symptoms of the coronavirus.

Anyone displaying possible signs such as a runny nose or sore throat is temporarily isolated from the rest of the group while further testing is done.

So far four people have been temporarily isolated but further tests have found they did not have coronavirus and they were all returned to the general population.
