FOUR men have been rescued after being stranded on a remote sandbar near the mouth of the Daly River after their boat engine failed yesterday.
The men activated an emergency beacon when their boat’s engine failed about 30km from their home in Bulgul on the Peron Islands on Monday.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority Search and Rescue team responded to the beacon activation and tasked CareFlight to help shortly before 1pm.
CareFlight sent out the Top End Rescue Helicopter, and it flew about 30 minutes to arrive at the beacon’s coordinates about 130km from Darwin.

The helicopter crew located the boat in less than five minutes search time.
The boat had drifted onto a sandbar where the men were able to get ashore, and the helicopter landed on a beach nearby.
The men were then flown to their home on the Peron Islands, all without injuries.
