Staff and students at O’Loughlin Catholic College evacuated

A Top End school has made the decision to evacuate staff and students following an incident, with police investigating.

UPDATE, 3.40PM MONDAY: TRAFFIC diverions have been removed in Karama following an ‘incident’ at O’Loughlin Catholic College.

EARLIER: STUDENTS and staff have been evacuated from a Top End school following an ‘incident’.

In a post on social media by O’Loughlin Catholic College, it said police were ‘investigating a threat to the school’.

“At present there is no immediate safety issue for student’s or staff,” the post said.

“Due to the lateness in the day, parents can collect students via Calytrix Road only near the pick up area by Holy Family, buses will also collect from Calytrix Road. Mueller is blocked off from Vanderlin to Bay field. Thank you for your support.”

An earlier post from the school read: “The College has been evacuated. Staff and students are safe. Please do not attend the school. Authorities are managing the situation. We will update soon.”

An NT Police statement read: “NT Police are responding to an incident in Mueller Road, Karama.

“Traffic diversions are in place. A school in the vicinity made the decision to evacuate the premises as a precaution. There is no threat to staff or student safety.”

According to the NT Fire Incident Map, an automatic fire alarm was activated at the school.
