Dedicated teachers, principals, leaders and support staff across the Territory were celebrated and acknowledged on Friday for World Teachers’ Day 2022.
Award ceremonies were held in Darwin, Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy, Katherine and Tennant Creek on Friday afternoon.
Education Minister Eva Lawler encouraged everyone to thank a teacher as a part of the international day of recognition for educators.
“Most of us can remember a favourite teacher from our school days – someone who believed in us, inspired us and guided us, whose lessons have lasted a lifetime,” Ms Lawler said.
“We are very fortunate to have an outstanding cohort of passionate and motivated educators who are committed to inspiring young people to learn and reach their full potential.”
World Teachers’ Day was inaugurated on October 5, 1994, by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
It is celebrated worldwide every year on October 5, but as the Territory is usually on school holidays on this date, Australia recognises the occasion on the last Friday of October.
