A Darwin family is mourning the loss of a “bright and bubbly” young mother who was “loved by many”.

Sheralee Ten-Haghuis was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Katherine on October 7.

Another woman aged in her 30s also died at the scene.

Ms Ten-Haghuis’s cousin Kaylissa Ogden said the 28-year-old was best known simply as “Bear”.

She said her family was “broken” at the death of their selfless daughter, mother, sister and cousin.

“She was a beautiful soul,” Ms Ogden said.

“She was bright, bubbly and always making everyone laugh with that cheeky smile always on her face.”

Ms Ten-Haghuis was a single mother and leaves behind three young daughters aged six, four and three.

“She just always made sure everyone was fine before herself,” Ms Ogden said.

“She’ll definitely be missed.”

Ms Ogden, who lives in Victoria, said she would regularly keep in contact with her cousin and tried to visit when she could.

“She was my home place,” she said.

“I’ll miss our chats.”

The family has started a GoFundMe to help alleviate some of the financial stress in the weeks leading up to Ms Ten-Haghuis’s funeral.

Ms Ogden said she was “overwhelmed” by the support.

“It’s been amazing — we’ve had so many people reach out and send their love,” she said.

“We’re trying to do whatever we can down this way to help.”

Ms Ten-Haghuis’s death marked the 42nd on Northern Territory roads this year.

At the same time last year it was 27.
