NORTHERN Territory police are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a service provider in a remote Central Australian town.
The woman was allegedly assaulted while visiting the area for work.
In a statement, the woman’s employer said they had begun an additional audit of its remote housing security to prevent incidents like this from occurring again, the ABC has reported.
“We are working closely with police to resolve the matter,” they said.
“We will continue to offer ongoing support for the victim and her family.”
Barkly MLA Steve Edgington put out a desperate call for change following the incident.
“How many more women need to be sexually assaulted before the Gunner Government takes some serious steps towards stopping sexual violence,” Mr Edgington said.
The National indigenous Australians Agency said it was aware of the alleged incident.
“The report of the alleged sexual assault is disturbing,” they said.
“This is rightly with the NT Police as a criminal matter.”
Police said investigations were ongoing and no arrests have been made in relation to the alleged sexual assault.
