THE finishing touches are being completed on the first six of 42 luxury villas at the Airport Mercure.

Accor’s Darwin general manager Erich Friedl said he was looking forward to opening day.

He said work will continue on another six villas as part of the resort master plan.

The Airport Development Group (ADG), which owns the Darwin International Airport, Alice Springs Airport and Tennant Creek Airport, is redeveloping the Mercure Darwin Airport Resort and Novotel Darwin Airport Hotel into one site.

The villas, with their own private plunge pools, are a key part of the multimillion-dollar, world-class destination resort being built next to the Darwin International Airport.

The beds and furniture are in and the pools are being filled for the first guests to take the plunge.

Each Villa has a private entry foyer leading to high end bathrooms off the bedroom that has a kingsize bed.

The rooms have a tropical Balinese feel about them.

From the bedroom is a private balcony with vistas to the individual swimming pools and the adjacent reserve.

Each of the six villas will be named after a significant Territory lndigenous figure.

The project sees the integration of the two airport accommodation properties.

Work is well under way on the new roundabout and new Sir Norman Brearley Drive access road now separating the two properties.

When this is completed work will begin on the significant upgrades to the existing accommodation and facades.

The two sites will be turned into one single resort with the additional tropical gardens, large lagoon pool, children’s slides, outdoor dining and restaurant options.

The range of accommodation will be bespoke high end through to family luxury, which will include the villa retreats.

Indigenous artwork will provide inspiration for the interiors and external facades.

When completed the Airport Development Groups says the resort will provide a perfect base from which to explore all the Top End has to offer.

The resort is expected to be completed by the 2022 dry season.
