TWO crocs, a beloved pub and boundless tourism opportunities are on offer with expressions of interest soon open for the Sandpalms Roadhouse and Tropical Motel in Bynoe.

The 8ha property, about 111km southwest of Darwin, opens for expressions of interest on October 18 with Real Estate Central.

The resort includes 25 motel rooms and the caravan park’s 32 powered and unpowered sites, swimming pool, barbecue area, service station and pub.

The business had a gross annual income of $1.69m in the last financial year.

Sandpalms is also home to beloved saltwater crocodiles Two Dogs and Levi.

Current owners Tommy and Julie Abdoo have led the expansion of the property for the past 12 years and hoped to see it prosper further once it changed hands.

“We bought the pub because we could see the potential for expansion due to its location,” Mr Abdoo said.

“It’s ideally located for tourism, primarily for fisherman … we still see a lot of potential but the biggest thing it needs is younger, fresh blood with family and a bit of money behind them.”

Mr Abdoo, who will remain living in the region, urged the new owners not to hesitate to ask for help and to “come with an open mind and be welcomed into the community”.

Real Estate Central sales professional Chris Clarke expected the property to attract significant interest. “Opportunities of this kind don’t come along every day. This is the first time it’s being sold freehold in 12 years,” he said.

“Darwin is in the spotlight for the right reasons at the moment. It’s very attractive to people from interstate.

“It doesn’t get more Darwin than the Sandpalms with two resident crocodiles and right in the centre of the best fishing Darwin has to offer.

“Tommy and Julie put a lot of their own blood, sweat and tears into the property but it’s certainly ready for somebody to take on and put their own flair on it.”
