Reported student Covid cases surpass 1500

The number of Covid cases reported among NT public school students has risen above 1500.

REPORTED Covid cases among NT public schools continue to rise, with a total 1549 students recorded as having the virus.

The numbers, as of February 15, represent 5.1 per cent of the student population.

There were 273 cases reported among teachers and non-teachers.

All cases were across 99 schools, including preschools.

TERRITORY public schools will get a share in $1.3m for preventive Covid measures, as the number of students reported to have contracted the virus surpasses 1300.

The NT government funding will assist schools to cover the cost of cleaning, provision of masks and other supplies to help reduce the risk of Covid transmission.

Education Minister Lauren Moss said the funding would be delivered through the budget process in Term 1, with half the money from the federal government under the National Partnership on Covid-19 Response program.

“We know that face-to-face learning remains the most effective and preferred, option for our students and that’s why we are supporting extra measures to keep our learning environments as safe as possible,” she said.

As of Friday February 11, there were 1356 student cases reported across 90 public schools, including preschools. This represents 4.6 per cent of the student population.

There were 296 cases recorded among school staff. Thirty registered teachers have been deployed to assist schools.
