MORE than a dozen workers from the Darwin Port have been whisked away to Howard Springs after a “PPE breach”.
The Sunday Territorian understands wharfies at the Top End port were servicing a cargo ship from Singapore when they were told they needed to go into isolation.
The ship cast off from Singapore on June 5 and arrived in Darwin on Thursday.
It is understood that after the vessel came into port, NT Health contractors boarded the ship and asked questions to each member of the crew.
Since the pandemic, sailors aboard international vessels are required to quarantine on board and cannot leave the boat.
Workers from Darwin Port must wear full PPE when servicing the vessel.
However, in a breach of protocol, workers from the Darwin Port entered the Singaporean vessel without correct PPE.
None of the sailors have been tested for Covid-19, the Sunday Territorian understands.
