Police to investigate death at Edith Falls

A person has been found dead at a popular tourist spot in the Northern Territory.
Emergency services were called out to an incident in the Nitmiluk National Park on Saturday where a person was believed to have drowned in the upper pools of Edith Falls.

A NT Police spokeswoman said they were unable to confirm details about the death on Saturday because they still had not been able to get in contact with the person’s next of kin.
“I can confirm an incident has occurred at Edith Falls, however, no details will be released at this stage,” she said.
A spokesman from CareFlight said they were called out to the incident but were stood down before leaving the hangar.
This is not the first time a tragedy has struck at the popular NT swimming hole.

In 2013, a 71-year-old woman from New South Wales fell to her death from the top of the lookout at Edith Falls.
And in 2008 a 25-year-old US Marine, who was temporarily based at the Katherine RAAF base, drowned while he was swimming from the plunge pool entrance to the other side of the falls.
