MINUTES prior to a crash in Alawa that claimed the life of a woman this month, the car accused of causing the tragedy was filmed driving dangerously throughout the Darwin CBD.
On Tuesday, NT Police released five CCTV videos that show the silver Holden driving just after 2am on May 16, about 20 minutes prior to the accident on Trower Rd.
The car, which held three passengers, is shown driving along Knuckey St on the wrong side of the road and grazing a kerb while turning onto the Esplanade.
The car almost clips another vehicle, then speeds down the Esplanade before passing through the Daly St- Esplanade roundabout.
In a statement, police said the car then headed in the direction of the northern suburbs.
Minutes later, it is alleged the 21-year-old driving the Holden evaded police a number of times before finally speeding through two red lights and slamming into the side of another car along Trower Rd.
A 36-year-old female passenger in the Holden died at the scene, while the driver and two other passengers were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 33-year-old driver of the other vehicle was also taken to hospital.
The 21-year-old driver was charged with multiple offences, including driving a motor vehicle causing death.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jakson Evans encouraged anyone with footage to submit it to police at ntpol.au.evidence.com/axon/citizen/public/9686550.
“We would also like anyone seen in the CCTV footage, or who witnessed the vehicle before the crash, to make contact with police on 131 444; please quote reference number 9686550,” he said.
