COVID-19 origins investigation needs to be ‘bipartisan’

UPDATE: A MAN who arrived from a hotspot and allegedly absconded from Darwin Airport has handed himself in.

Katherine resident John Pracy, 52, handed himself in at the Centre for National Resilience on Monday night.

He will undergo testing for Covid-19 and will stay at the Centre for 14 days in mandatory quarantine.

EARLIER: POLICE are calling for help to find a man who evaded mandatory quarantine by skipping a checkpoint at Darwin Airport and hopping in a taxi.

Katherine resident John Pracy, 52, arrived in Darwin on Monday around 11.40am on QF840 from Sydney when he avoided a checkpoint at Darwin Airport and left in a taxi.

Authorities were set to take Mr Pracy to the Centre for National Resilience for mandatory quarantine.

A statement from NT Police said there was no information to suggest Mr Pracy had Covid-19 but he was subject to quarantine due to coming from a declared hotspot.

Incident Controller Brendan Muldoon said Mr Pracy’s disregard for quarantine protocols created an unnecessary risk for the broader community.

“This is very disappointing behaviour and not something we should have to devote time and resources to,” he said.

“Anyone who knows of his whereabouts is urged to contact police on 131 444.”
