NT POLICE have reported weapon seizures and arrests across multiple disturbances at Traeger Park tarnishing the central Australian Football League finals over the weekend.
The finals were held on Sunday over three games with notable incidents and disturbances managed by police and security over a two hour period.
Incidents included: multiple police units requiring diversion to Traeger Park, five arrests for anti-social behaviour, weapons seized in main carpark, two protective custody apprehensions and numerous disturbances managed by police and security over a two hour period.
Superintendent Anthony Deutrom said it was unfortunate that a small group behaved in a poor manner during the finals.
“It is very unfortunate that a small cohort of individuals behaved in a poor manner during the course of the CAFL finals,” he said.
“NT Police are working closely with CAFL to ensure those responsible are identified.
“Police will work with the CAFL and strongly support any disciplinary action where any of the teams players, officials or spectators participated in any of the disturbances.
“NT Police will not tolerate behaviour that impacts public safety and we will assist in any ongoing CAFL review.
“We have agreed to be involved next year, to ensure appropriate planning and mitigation strategies are built into the season to prevent a repeat of Sunday’s unfortunate incidents.”
