TWO men have been fined by NT Police for breaching their mandatory coronavirus quarantine.

On Wednesday a 25-year-old man in Johnston, who had recently returned from New South Wales by plane, violated quarantine by leaving his home to get food.

A compliance team found he was not at home as required. He was contacted to return home immediately and was given a penalty of $1099.

A 50-year-old man from Jabiru was also found to have violated his 14-day quarantine period by leaving his home.

He had recently crossed a biosecurity checkpoint at the Queensland border by road into the NT.

Police were notified by a concerned member of the public, and he was given a penalty of $1099.

Both cases have been referred to Environmental Health Officers to conduct a further risk assessment to determine if contact tracing is required.

3,085 compliance checks have now been completed with nine fines issued.

An NT Police spokeswoman urged Territorians to stay home if possible.

“The public can be assured that fines will be issued to anyone not respecting the community and doing the right thing,” she said.
