POLICE have seized a car with 28L of beer and spirits in the boot in an alleged grog running attempt.
Officers stopped the vehicle travelling east on the Arnhem Hwy on July 22, finding a large quantity of beer and spirits in the boot of the car.
This included 60 cans of beer and eight bottles of whiskey and in total was the equivalent of 270 standard drinks.
The driver revealed to police the alcohol was destined for a remote prescribed community and that the intended recipient had a Banned Drinker Order.
The 51-year-old driver was directed to the Jabiru Police Station, where 28L of liquor was destroyed. The man’s car was also seized.
Acting Officer in Charge Jabiru Police Station Bradley Gaylard said the man was given issued a Notice to Appear for bringing liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area.
“Police will continue to target the illegal supply of alcohol to our vulnerable communities as it is recognised as the main driver behind domestic violence and anti-social behaviour,” he said.
