MULTIPLE people have required assistance from paramedics after a string of crashes across the Top End.
ST John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said one of the crashes happened about 6pm on Wednesday.
“Roughly 40km out of Katherine we had a single vehicle incident out there,” Mr Garraway told ABC Darwin.
“Paramedics went out and retrieved a person and brought them back into the Katherine Hospital with only minor injuries.”
Mr Garraway said a car also collided with a pole at Humpty Doo.
“A car ran into a power pole (Wednesday) night, again only minor injuries from that incident but we did transport a male patient to the Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment,” he said.
Mr Garraway said another two-car collision happened at an intersection in Berrimah.
Also, in the Darwin CBD ambos attended the scene of an electric scooter accident about 11pm.
“It was a 61-year-old male but unfortunately he didn’t wait around for the ambulance to arrive for us to assess him,” he said. “So a busy day.”
Mr Garraway said as the Wet season neared people should be vigilant in maintaining their vehicles for safety.
Paraglider airlifted to hospital after crashing near Territory highway
A 36-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital when he crashed his paraglider near the Tanami Highway.
Alice Springs Acting Senior Sergeant Alistair Gall said the cause of the accident is still unknown and is being investigated.
The paraglider crashed near the Tanami Highway 80km north of Alice Springs.
The pilot broke his leg in thecrash and was flown to hospital on Monday about 4.50pm.
“He took all of the right precautions,” Sen Sgt Gall said.
“He had an emergency satellite beacon which he activated and as a result of that an emergency message was sent.
“We were able to dispatch a helicopter from Alice Springs with a St John NT ambulance crew.”
St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said he believed it was the man’s second paragliding accident.
“It was a good result we were able to get him back into town and he’s recovering in hospital at the moment,” he said.
