THE Palmerston Municipal boundary is set for a big expansion growing into the previously unincorporated areas of Wishart, Tivendale, Kirkland Rd and Elrundie.
The growth set to take place on July 1 is set to benefit the existing community providing opportunities for social and economic development and improved and innovative infrastructure.
But it will also allow landowners and residents of the land to be incorporated to have local representation and involve themselves in future community planning.
The expansion will not include the still unincorporated residential developing area of Northcrest.
Palmerston mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell said the addition of predominantly industrial areas added some important diversity to the municipality.
“Palmerston is a growing community with plenty of investment opportunity,” Ms Pascoe-Bell said.
“This expansion will provide further opportunities for our social and economic development for both our current and future residents.
“For those residents and businesses in the new boundaries it gives them local government representation which they haven’t had and allows us to assist them.
“City of Palmerston has a long term vision to achieve a vibrant future and economy.
“The last few years has challenged many, however we are confident and excited for the potential opportunities this expansion will bring to the current and future residents of Palmerston.”
