Palmerston residents letterboxed by far-right group Proud Boys

Residents have been alarmed after a far-right extremist group made famous by former US President Donald Trump letterboxed their Palmerston homes.

NORTHERN Territory Senator Malarndirri McCarthy has denounced the letterboxing of Palmerston homes by far-right extremist group the Proud Boys.

The pamphlets were dropped across Palmerston, announcing the “all-male drinking club” would be launching a Territory chapter.

The Proud Boys were brought into the mainstream by US President Donald Trump last year, when he asked the far-right group to “stand back and stand by” during a debate.

The organisation was also linked to the storming of the US Capitol building on January 6.

Letters sent to the NT News by multiple people state the group is planning an NT chapter and outlining the Proud Boys’ various policy stances, including “venerating the housewife”, “pro-gun rights” and “anti-racism”.

“The west is the best, that’s why it’s the number one destination of immigration across the world,” the letter said.

The FBI is among organisations which have labelled the Proud Boys as an “extremist group with ties to white nationalism”.

Labor Senator Malarndirri McCarthy said the letters were “incredibly concerning”.

“These self-proclaimed ‘proud Western Chauvinists’ have no place in the Northern Territory, and I would hope that no Territorian would sign up to this group of extremists,” Senator McCarthy said.

“Let’s call this for what it is: far right terrorism. It must be condemned.”

“I am frankly disgusted that this sort of propaganda is being distributed in Palmerston.”
