THE head of one of the Top End’s leading medical clinics has demanded respect for staff after an increase in angry behaviour relating to the Covid vaccine.
Palmerston GP Super Clinic chief executive Robyn Cahill said the clinic had experienced an increase in aggressive, agitated behaviour from individuals intending to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
“It’s been challenging and uncomfortable and frustrating,” she said.
“While we understand why some people might be upset and annoyed and certainly anxious, it’s not reasonable and its not okay for people to be taking their feelings out on staff who are simply trying to help them.”
Ms Cahill said urged anyone intending to go to the clinic to be vaccinated and exhibit aggressive behaviour needed to be more considerate of staff.
“Healthcare professionals are here to look after you,” she said.
“We’re not here to talk politics, we’re here to look after you.
“We are punching way above our weight. Our guys are tired and just a little bit of respect would be nice and understanding that we’re human too.”
Ms Cahill also encouraged Territorians with genuine anxieties about the vaccine to speak with their local general practitioner or a clinic nurse.
“Our nursing team are more than happy to chat with you,” she said.
