TWO children have been arrested following an alleged armed holdup in Darwin’s city centre.

Northern Territory Police said a 12-year-old and 14-year-old boy were allegedly involved in the robbery of a Mitchell St business on Sunday.

Police alleged the young teens threatened an employee with an edged weapon before stealing a number of small items.

After a short foot chase Strike Force Trident detectives caught the 14-year-old, who was charged with aggravated robbery.

The 14-year-old was also charged for an unrelated incident earlier that morning.

He faces accusations of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and escaping custody.

The 12-year-old was arrested on Monday morning, and was yet to be charged.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said the specialised unit, Strike Force Trident, would continue to combat property offences.

“This violent behaviour has no place in our community,” Sgt Bland said.

Hit and run

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was injured in a hit and run in Humpty Doo on Monday morning.

An NT Police spokesman said the 32-year-old woman was walking along Girraween Rd at about 5.40am when she was struck by a vehicle before the driver then allegedly drove away.

Nearby witnesses assisted the woman before St John Ambulance conveyed her to Royal Darwin Hospital.

The spokesman said while the woman was unable to provide a description of the vehicle but its left side mirror was knocked off in the incident and left behind at the scene.

Investigators are calling for anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage from the area between 5.30am and 6am to contact them on 131 444 and quote reference number 9854590.

Thieves break into pubs

POLICE are investigating after booze hunting thieves broke into two Darwin pubs overnight.

NT Police Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Kaye Pemberton said two pubs were broken into on Sunday night.

Sgt Pemberton said police were investigating an unlawful entry at both the Palmerston Tavern and Coolalinga Tavern.

“Alcohol was targeted by the offenders,” Sgt Pemberton said.

She said CCTV footage from both break-ins was being reviewed as part of the investigation.

It comes after a string of thefts targeted Darwin region businesses, including an alleged knifepoint robbery of the Wulagi Supermarket on Tuesday, November 16.

The break-in at the Palmerston Tavern comes less than a week after the venue was allegedly damaged by would-be thieves.

Police alleged the door was smashed in, activating the alarm 2.45am on Wednesday, November 17.

Palmerston Tavern was contacted but declined to comment.
