CHIEF Minister Michael Gunner has hailed the Territory’s travel bubble with New Zealand as a win for tourism after more than three Kiwis per day crossed the border in the first 30 days.
Figures released by the NT government reveal 93 New Zealanders entered the Territory since the borders opened back up on October 16.
Mr Gunner (pictured) said he wasn’t surprised so many from across the ditch had chosen to take advantage of the NT’s COVID-free lifestyle.
“The Territory is the safest place in Australia because Territorians are the best, and because of that we’ve welcomed Kiwis here before the rest of Australia,” he said.
“We’ve also got the best weather, best people and best holiday spots in the world, so I’m not surprised New Zealanders would want to holiday here.”

Mr Gunner said the travel bubble had helped showcase what the Territory had to offer, supporting its bid to become Australia’s “comeback capital“ in the pandemic recovery period.
“We were able to welcome tourists from non-hotspots back to the Territory before anyone else which meant more support for our tourism industry and more support for local jobs,” he said.
