Alice Springs-based engagement officer and educator Leela Kruger has taken out the top gong at the NT Young Achiever Awards.
Ms Kruger was selected from 13 category winners, where she also won the NT Governemnt Young Aboriginal Educator Award.
The 29-year-old began her role as a school-based engagement officer at Gillen Primary School in 2021.
A NT Young Achiever Awards spokeswoman said the school’s attendance rates had previously been declining.
“Leela built a strong understanding of the community, barriers to engagement and links between families,” she said.
“Leela’s calm, consistent and culturally safe support helped students become happy regular attendees.”
Ms Kruger was one of 13 category winners announced at a ceremony on Friday night.
The winners each received $2000 and a trophy to commemorate their achievements – Ms Kruger received an additional $2000 for her title as 2023 Young Achiever of the Year.
