HUNDREDS of Territorian travellers started to stream into WA over the weekend after the scrapping of the state’s hard border closure.
Darwin residents Tija-Mae, 9, and Jazahra Bernard, 12, were among travellers boarding the first few WA-bound flights from Darwin airport on the weekend.
The pair said they were excited to finally be able to visit their grandmother in Kununurra.
“We’ll finally get to go see her again and celebrate her birthday together,” Jazahra said.
“I’m so happy — it feels like we’ve haven’t seen her in so long.”

More than 4000 people are expected to arrive in WA from interstate by the weeks end, with about 200 from NT arriving in Kununurra as of yesterday.
WA has been closed to the rest of the nation for seven months and visitors will no longer need an exemption to enter WA, however arrivals from NSW and Victoria are still need to quarantine.
