POLICE are searching for two young men who allegedly jumped on the ankles of a man in Nightcliff.

Northern Territory Police said a 31-year-old man was found on the side of the road with a significant leg injury at Kurrajong Cr just before 1am, Wednesday.

Police claim the man said he was approached by two young strangers who assaulted him before running away.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Greater Darwin and Road Policing Martin Dole said the man was left with a fractured ankle after the suspects “jumped on his leg”.

Mr Dole said the 31-year-old was taken to hospital.

Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker said the incident was one of a series of violent alleged attacks overnight.

“This behaviour in the backdrop of what the Northern Territory is currently dealing with (Covid), is completely unacceptable,” Mr Chalker said.

“All the work we’re doing is to serve and protect this community.

“To all key leaders, to the strong family members out there, I urge you to pull those recalcitrant people in your life into line so we can focus on saving lives in the Territory.”

Police said the two suspects were described as being of Aboriginal appearance in their late teens to early twenties.

One man was described as wearing black board shorts and a pink singlet with the second male wearing black board shorts, maroon-brown coloured shirt and khaki work boots.

Police urged for any witnesses or people with dashcam footage from along Kurrajong Cr between 12am and 1am, to contact police on 131 444, and quote the reference number 9849809.
