NT POLICE have released shocking images of where a man has been buried alive at a Territory mine site.
Craig Butler, 59, was engulfed under about 48,000 cubic meters of soil and rock at the mine, about 130km north of Tennant Creek, following the horrific industrial accident which happened about 2.40pm Saturday.

Police have said it may be several more days until he can be retrieved from Bootu Creek Mine.
In a statement released Wednesday afternoon by a Joint Taskforce led by NT Police and assisted by NT WorkSafe and the Department of Primary Industry and Resources, it said the team was still at the scene.

“Additional geotechnical equipment and experts in geotechnical engineering have arrived on site to assess the stability of the site and help aid in the response activities,” it said.
“The geotechnical data will enable an understanding of the stability of the ground so decisions can be made regarding the required level of safety for recovery activities to begin.
“Specialist operational equipment has also been deployed to be used once a safe plan has been developed.
“Additional external experts are also being engaged as technical requirements are better understood.
“It is not known how long it will take to remove the employee due to the instability of the incident site.”

The statement also said it was an ”extremely sad situation for all involved”.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the mine employee, workers on site and emergency first responders,” it said.
