POLICE have recovered the body of the missing 24-year-old man who drowned in the Todd River.
The man went missing about 7pm Thursday, after swimming with a friend in Wigley Gorge at the Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve.
His body was found 1.7km south of Wigley Gorge in the Todd River bed at about 10.20am on Friday.
Superintendent Travis Wurst said two men entered the water with floatation devices but both came into difficulty after encountering fast flowing water.
“The 24-year-old man disappeared and the incident was reported to Police a short time later,” Wurst said.
“Police and NT Emergency Service personnel searched into the night and recommenced the search at first light today.
“I would like to thank all Police, NT Emergency Service and Parks and Wildlife personnel who were heavily involved in the search,” Superintendent Wurst said.
Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
