POLICE have praised patrons for their good behaviour at pubs reopening across the Northern Territory, after only one person was arrested outside a venue on Friday night.

NT Police Commander David Procter said they were pleased to see the majority of pub patrons across the Territory were “pretty well behaved” on Friday night.

“I think it went as we expected, if not better in some regards,” he said.

“We did have a couple of incidents at some licenced premises where patrons could have been better behaved but no infringement notices were issued.

“There were a number of warnings that were given to patrons and licenced premises.

“Two locations where patrons could have behaved better were Lola’s Pergola and Six Tanks Brew Pub.

“We are engaging with those premises and the Department of Health to assist them as we go through this.

“We also had one arrest last night after a person who was being ejected from a licence premises and assaulted one of our officers.”

Cdr Procter said police would be using infringement notices and sanctions as a last resort.

“We also had two major random breath testing stations in Darwin on Friday and conducted 688 tests,” he said.

Two drivers were charged for drink driving and nine drivers were issued with drug infringement notices.
