Two NT Police officers to face court for allegedly attempting to pervert the course of justice

A second NT Police officer has been charged for allegedly attempting to pervert the course of justice and making a false declaration in a ‘connected’ matter.

UPDATE: A SECOND NT Police officer has been charged for allegedly attempting to pervert the course of justice and making a false declaration.

An NT Police spokesman confirmed the matter is connected to similar charges laid against another officer on Saturday.

The latest charges were laid against a 48-year-old officer, who will face additional charges of driving without due care and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Both men will be required to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on December 16.

The 48-year-old has been suspended from duty without pay.

The matter is under investigation by Crime Command and the Professional Standards Command, a police spokesman said.

The spokesman said no further information will be provided “as the matter is now before the courts”.

EARLIER: NT Police have arrested and charged an officer for allegedly attempting to pervert the course of justice and making a false declaration.

It is at least the seventh serving NT Police officer to be charged this year.

The man, 44, has been bailed to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on December 16.

He has been suspended from duty without pay.

Police say the matter is currently under investigation by Crime Command and the Professional Standards Command.

An NT Police spokesman said no further information will be provided “as the matter is now before the courts”.
