TERRITORY police have launched a festive period road safety campaign in the lead up to Christmas.

The week long Operation Sepio began this morning with police waving in motorists to Mindil Beach car park for registration and road worthy checks and breath tests.

Acting Senior Sergeant Adrian Kidney said the operation aimed to educate drivers about the fatal five factors which contribute to crashes.

“We are launching Operation Sepio, it’s in relation to a road safety campaign heading into the festive season. We’ve be focusing on avoiding the fatal five, ensuring members of the public are compliant with their registration and road worthy compliance and also if you are going to go out and drink in the festive season, plan ahead and arrange a sober Bob,” he said.

“We are coming into the festive season and there is also an increase in people going out and celebrating the festive season. We just want to remind the public to be vigilant in getting home and using the roads over that period.”
