NT Police kept busy with stolen cars, a 14-year-old allegedly going for a joy ride in Palmerston

Police were kept busy overnight with a series of incidents across the NT, including a 14-year-old who allegedly went for a joy ride.

A 14-year-old was allegedly caught behind the wheel of the car, among a number of incidents across the NT overnight.

Senior Sergeant Kaye Pemberton said a short pursuit was initiated on Chung Wah Tce with a silver sedan before the driver pulled over.

“Police then discovered the driver was a 14-year-old female – just before 1am this morning (Monday),” Sgt Pemberton said.

“Inquiries revealed the youth had taken a friend of the families vehicle without permission.

“The youth was released into the care of the family and will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.”

Sgt Pemberton said a woman was sent to the Royal Darwin Hospital for mandatory BAC testing mounting the kerb on Drickward Dr, causing multiple tyres to blow.

“At about 4.40am a vehicle travelling along Ross Smith Ave failed to stop at the Dick Ward Dr intersection and mounted the kerb with no injuries,” she said.

“We hope that people drive carefully, we’re getting closer and closer to Christmas and we want to see people with their family’s.”

In the Red Centre, Alice Springs had two cars stolen in the last 24-hours.

Acting Senior Sergeant Gared Thompson a grey Toyota yaris was stolen from a house at about midnight on Sunday.

“The keys to the car were taken and the little Toyota Yaris rego CB44ZN is still outstanding,” Sgt Thompson said.

Sgt Thompson said another car was stolen from a residence in Braitling on Sunday but was recovered within the hour.

“It is still under investigation,” he said.

Sgt Thompson said the kitchen bench and the bedside table or drawer are the two most common places thieves look to find keys.

“A small safe for your keys would be ideal,” he said.
