POLICE have issued a summons to appear to a 20-year-old man who was shot in Palmerston in March.

On March 8, two NT Police officers were called to Gray for an unrelated incident, when they were allegedly “confronted” by the man armed with a spear.

A statement from NT Police said the man allegedly raised the spear at one of the officers despite repeated warnings.

At the time Assistant Commissioner Michael White, who led the investigation, said one officer deployed a taser around the same time their partner fired their gun six times in succession.

The 20-year-old was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a critical condition and has since recovered.

The summons was issued to the man for: going armed in public, assaulting police and conduct endangering life.

“The Office of the NT Independent Commissioner Against Corruption and the NT Ombudsman were advised for independent oversight,” the NT Police statement read.

“As the matter is now before the court there will be no further comment.”

The man will appear in court on May 3.
