Third-time offender among seven fined for breaching COVID-19 quarantine over the weekend
SEVEN people have been fined for breaching quarantine restrictions over the weekend, including one man who has been slapped with his third fine.

SEVEN people have been fined for breaching quarantine restrictions over the weekend, including one man who has been slapped with his third fine.
NT Police said a 25-year-old man in Driver, who arrived in the Territory on June 24, was hit with his third fine after he was found to be absent from his residence for a third time during compliance checks.
Police were unable to find him for a number of days. When they did, he told police he had been in Adelaide River for a funeral.
A 39-year-old woman in Virginia and a 48-year-old man in the Narrows were both absent from their homes at the time of compliance checks. Both were given fines.

27-year-old man flouts quarantine by going clubbing
A compliance team was conducting checks in Howard Springs on a 37-year-old man who was previously cautioned for leaving his home.
Upon arrival the man was away from his residence. Police attempted to contact the man and he continued to hang up on them.
The compliance team left and returned later to speak with the man, who stated he would contest the fine in court.
Police also identified his driver’s licence was suspended.
A 40-year-old man who arrived in the Territory on July 1 was identified by a compliance team at a cafe in Katherine.
The man advised he was out doing errands and wanted a coffee.
The compliance team reminded him of his quarantine rules and he was issued a fine.
A 22-year-old woman from Alice Springs, who arrived in the Territory on June 27, was also fined. Police had been trying to locate the woman after she was absent from her accommodation for a number of days.
The woman was identified on social media to be attending a licensed premise in Alice Springs. Police were able to track her down and issue her a fine.

NT Police and Environment Health Officers continue to undertake compliance activities.
25,487 compliance checks have now been completed and 131 fines issued.
The infringement penalty for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011 is $1106 for an individual and $5530 for a business.
