A woman is in hospital with head injuries after her partner allegedly assaulted her with a blunt weapon.

A 25-year-old man was also arrested after the alleged domestic violence incident in Ali Curung, which occurred about 6pm Tuesday.

The woman was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital with head injuries and significant bruising to her legs following the alleged assault.

Police said the man fled the scene before officers arrived.

Tennant Creek criminal investigation detectives who travelled to Ali Curung, along with local police, arrested the man on Wednesday.

He remained in police custody with charges expected to be laid on Wednesday evening.

Child flown interstate with serious injuries after aggravated assault

A 26-year-old man will face court for an aggravated assault on a child in Tennant Creek at the weekend.

Police said the man was intoxicated when he assaulted the child with a blunt weapon.

The child suffered serious injuries and was transported by Royal Flying Doctor Service to the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

The man has been charged with cause serious harm and was remanded to appear in Alice Springs court on Tuesday.

Man apprehended in possession of dangerous weapons

Police have arrested a 37-year-old man who was allegedly behaving erratically in possession of weapons in an Alice Springs suburb overnight.

An NT Police spokesman said front line and specialist officers responded to the man allegedly making threats and behaving erratically in the suburb of Braitling about 9pm on Thursday.

The spokesman said when police arrived at the scene they observed the 37-year-old was in possession of knuckle dusters and a knife.

He said the man was apprehended safely by police before being taken to Alice Springs Hospital for assessment.

Acting Commander James Gray-Spence said the situation was handled “quickly and professionally” by the officers involved.

“I commend everyone for their actions,” he said.

Call for witnesses to Tennant Creek fight

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fight in Tennant Creek overnight which left a man with head injuries to come forward.

An NT Police spokesman said officers received reports of two men fighting near the intersection of Peko Rd and Ambrose St in Tennant Creek about 10.15pm on Thursday.

They said one man received head injuries and was expected to require further medical treatment, while the other man was arrested at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Investigators are urging anyone with information, in particular those who may have witnessed the fight, to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference number 10354888.
